Orchis is a genus within the orchid family (Orchidaceae), traditionally not associated with specific medicinal uses. The scientific evidence primarily focuses on genetic and ecological studies, revealing that chromosome numbers in subtribe Orchidinae range from 32 to 42, with distinct karyomorphology noted between species groups. A study identified 21 Orchidaceae species in four protected Moroccan areas, updating previous knowledge but highlighting poor conservation due to environmental and human factors. Climate change is shown to reduce overall habitat suitability for Orchis militaris while increasing it in some regions, underscoring the importance of local population dynamics and refugia. Fungal associates from co-occurring orchids vary in their ability to support seed germination and early growth of Serapias orientalis and Spiranthes spiralis. No major safety issues or drug interactions have been recorded for this genus.
