Pterocarpus

Pterocarpus, a genus of trees native to tropical and subtropical regions, has traditionally been used in various forms of traditional medicine. However, specific uses for species such as P. mildbraedii and P. santalinus are not well-documented. Scientific studies have shown potential neuroprotective effects from the aqueous extract of P. mildbraedii, which may mitigate biochemical markers associated with Alzheimer's disease in animal models. Similarly, P. santalinus has demonstrated diverse pharmacological activities due to its rich phytochemical content, showing promise for treating inflammatory, gastrointestinal, dermatological, metabolic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. Additionally, Pterocarpus santalinus-mediated molybdenum oxide nanoparticles have shown significant antioxidant, antimicrobial, seed-priming, and nitrogen fixation activities. In terms of safety, no major issues have been recorded for the genus as a whole, and there are currently no known drug interactions reported.
