Green Columbine

Aquilegia viridiflora, commonly known as western columbine, is a flowering plant found primarily in North America. Traditionally, its use has not been documented in any specific medicinal practices or traditions. Scientific studies have shown substantial inter- and intraspecific variation in the floral terpene profiles of Aquilegia species due to differential gene expression and sequence divergence of key TPS genes. Additionally, genetic and phenotypic differentiation among Aquilegia viridiflora populations has been observed, with some evidence of gene flow between certain lineages. A novel actinobacterial species, Leifsonia flava sp. nov., was isolated from the rhizosphere of this plant, highlighting its microbial diversity. Cultivars of Pacific Northwest native plants have shown significant differences in floral traits and associated bee community composition compared to their native counterparts. No major safety issues or drug interactions have been recorded for Aquilegia viridiflora.
