Chinese dodder

Cuscuta chinensis, a traditional Chinese plant, is primarily used in herbal medicine. While its specific traditional uses are not well-documented, studies have shown that dietary supplementation with Cuscuta chinensis improved ovarian function and production performance in aged laying hens by modulating steroid hormone biosynthesis and gut microbiota. Additionally, processing Tripterygium wilfordii with Cuscuta chinensis juice reduced toxicity and enhanced its anti-rheumatic efficacy in mice, identifying 14 differential chemical markers among five processed forms of the plant using advanced analytical techniques. Cuscuta chinensis extract also alleviated ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis by enhancing osteogenic differentiation in bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells. Safety concerns are currently minimal, with no major issues recorded; similarly, there is no evidence of significant drug interactions associated with this plant.
