Glaucium flavum

Glaucium flavum is a plant traditionally used in very limited contexts; its specific traditional medicinal applications have not been extensively documented. Scientific studies have identified acteoside from G. flavum as potentially neuroprotective, showing inhibition of α-synuclein aggregation and reduction of oxidative stress in models of Parkinson's disease. Isoquinoline alkaloids were also characterized in G. flavum samples from seven Turkish regions, indicating variability in major constituents and anticholinesterase activities. Additionally, green synthesized gold nanoparticles using the leaf extract of G. flavum demonstrated effective antiviral and antioxidant properties with low cytotoxicity. The chemistry and pharmacology of alkaloids from Glaucium spp., including G. flavum, have been reviewed, noting potential anti-cancer and anti-cholinesterase effects, with G. flavum being the most extensively studied species. No major safety concerns or known drug interactions have been recorded for G. flavum to date.
