Guarea

Guarea is a genus of plants primarily found in tropical and subtropical regions, particularly Central and South America. While traditional uses for specific species within this genus are not well-documented, some species have shown potential biological activities. For instance, extracts from Guarea guidonia roots and Anadenanthera colubrina leaves demonstrated significant inhibitory effects on plant growth. Additionally, studies indicate that extracts from Piper nigrum, Albizia ferruginea, and Guarea cedrata exhibit varying levels of anthelmintic activity against nematodes in vitro. Spathulenol, isolated from Guarea macrophylla, displayed potent and selective in vitro anthelmintic activity against Angiostrongylus cantonensis larvae. The soil microbiome's influence on leaf heat tolerance was also observed differently under warming compared to ambient conditions for Guarea guidonia seedlings. Currently, there is no substantial evidence of major safety concerns or recorded drug interactions associated with the use of Guarea species. However, further research is necessary to fully understand their potential applications and effects.
