French plantain

Musa × paradisiaca, commonly known as banana or plantain, originates from tropical regions of Africa but is now cultivated worldwide. Traditionally, it has not been extensively used in medicine, though its various parts have been utilized for food and other practical purposes across cultures. Scientific evidence suggests that the peel extract may enhance the effectiveness of 5-FU (fluorouracil) in anticancer activity against HL-60 cells when combined with Banlec, indicating potential synergistic effects. Additionally, Musa paradisiaca has shown promise in improving plant biomass and water content under drought conditions for faba bean plants. CaC2 treatment was found to alter the nutritional composition, antioxidant properties, and heavy metal accumulation in bananas, mangoes, and plantains, with dose-dependent and fruit-specific impacts noted. No major safety concerns or recorded drug interactions have been identified thus far, though further research is warranted to fully understand its potential effects.
