Securinega

Securinega is a plant traditionally not associated with any known medicinal practices. Scientific research has identified key enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of securinega alkaloids, highlighting an unexpected role for sulfotransferases in scaffold remodeling. Four new Securinega alkaloids were discovered through synthesis and their structures confirmed, suggesting their presence in F. suffruticosa. Studies have shown that a securinega alkaloid derivative significantly suppressed pancreatic cancer cell proliferation and induced apoptosis via the p38 MAPK pathway and upregulation of CHOP. Another derivative with two Michael acceptors activated the Keap1-Nrf2 pathway, inducing antioxidant gene expression and reducing inflammation in microglia. No major safety concerns or recorded drug interactions have been identified to date.
