Sempervivum tectorum, commonly known as hens and chicks, is a traditional plant used primarily for its ornamental value in many cultures. While it has not been traditionally utilized for medicinal purposes, recent scientific studies have shown promising results. Research indicates that silver nanoparticles synthesized from Sempervivum tectorum leaf extract exhibit antibacterial activity against canine Staphylococcus pseudintermedius and suggest potential benefits in mitigating the adverse effects of aluminum exposure on male reproductive function and trace element levels. Additionally, the plant employs a quiescent-like strategy to survive drought stress by maintaining low oxidative levels and adjusting its morphology. Seasonal variations influence the phenolic composition and antioxidant activity of Sempervivum tectorum, with higher water content in extraction increasing phenolic compound yield. To date, no major safety issues or drug interactions have been recorded for this plant.
