Chinese star-jessamine

Trachelospermum jasminoides, commonly known as star jasmine, originates from traditional medicine practices but has not been traditionally used for any specific medical conditions. Scientific evidence is limited and primarily focuses on its potential applications in wastewater treatment and osteoarthritis management. In a study examining its use in treating wastewater, Trachelospermum jasminoides showed high removal efficiencies of turbidity, total suspended solids (TSS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and certain benzotriazoles, though the plant's contribution was not statistically significant. Another study indicated that trachelospermic acid (TCG) from this plant may alleviate osteoarthritis by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis and enhancing chondrocyte survival. The plant also demonstrated moderate photosynthetic stability under varying light conditions and provided insights into its mitochondrial genome, which exists in multiple conformations. To date, no major safety issues or drug interactions have been recorded for Trachelospermum jasminoides.
