Vinca erecta is a plant traditionally not associated with any specific medicinal uses. Scientific studies have focused on its chemical components and potential applications, rather than traditional practices. Research has highlighted the synthesis of key alkaloids from Vinca erecta, including (-)-pseudocopsinine and (-)-minovincine, which could have implications for synthetic drug development. The biosynthesis pathway of vinblastine and related compounds has been characterized through the discovery of vindolinine synthase, an enzyme involved in their production. Rob, a flavonoid glycoside isolated from Vinca erecta, was found to reduce bone resorption by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis in ovariectomized mice, indicating possible therapeutic potential for conditions like osteoporosis. No significant safety concerns or known drug interactions have been reported regarding this plant.
