Thalictrum simplex

Thalictrum simplex, commonly known as meadow rue or false senecio, is a plant native to Europe and Asia. While it has been used in traditional medicine for various purposes across different cultures, no specific traditional uses have been recorded for this particular species. Scientific studies have shown promising results; (-)-thalimonine from Thalictrum simplex demonstrated selective inhibition of influenza virus A/H7N7 and A/H7N1 reproduction in chicken embryo fibroblasts, indicating potential antiviral activity. Additionally, Hernandezine from the plant significantly inhibited liver cancer cell proliferation by inducing G0/G1 phase arrest and promoting apoptosis, suggesting possible anti-cancer properties. Two new pavine alkaloids were also isolated along with a known compound, further highlighting its chemical diversity. Notably, no major safety issues or drug interactions have been recorded for Thalictrum simplex, though comprehensive clinical trials are still needed to validate these findings.
