About us
About FolkKB
FolkKB is a free, multilingual, citation-first reference on traditional and folk medicine. For any plant, we bring together how it has been traditionally used, what the scientific evidence says, and its known safety concerns and drug interactions — with a source and an evidence grade behind every statement.
§ Our mission
Traditional and folk medicine hold real knowledge — many modern medicines began there. But “what to take to get better” is also where people are misled and harmed. Our goal is to make that knowledge transparent and evidence-checked: to show what is genuinely claimed, what the science actually supports, and what the risks are — honestly, and in your language. We describe; we never prescribe.
§ What you get for each plant
Traditional use
How and where a plant has been used, and by which tradition — recorded as history and culture.
What the science says
Peer-reviewed and regulatory findings, each graded A–D by the strength of the evidence.
Safety & toxicity
Known adverse effects and toxicity — surfaced, never hidden.
Drug interactions
Documented herb–drug interactions, because many plants are not harmless.
§ Our principles
Sourced. Every fact links to a real, checkable reference. Evidence-graded. Traditional use is never silently promoted to “proven effective”. Safety-first. Toxicity and interactions are always shown. Multilingual. A query in one language finds a plant described in another. You can read more about How we grade & cite.
§ Editorial independence
FolkKB is free to read and may be supported by advertising and affiliate links. Those are always clearly labeled and kept separate from the reference content — they never change which plants we cover, the sources we cite, or the grades we assign. See our Advertising disclosure.
