Œnothère

Oenothera is a genus of flowering plants traditionally found in North America, Europe, and Asia. While there are various species within this genus, traditional uses for specific Oenothera species are not well-documented. Scientific evidence suggests that extracts from some species, such as Oenothera glazioviana, exhibit potential antioxidant, antimicrobial, enzyme inhibitory, and anticancer activities. Additionally, the oil from Oenothera biennis seeds demonstrates strong antioxidant properties and selective antimicrobial activity against certain bacteria; however, further in vivo studies are needed to confirm these findings. In a more specific study involving 5xFAD transgenic mice, evening primrose leaf extract was observed to improve cognitive performance and reduce neuroinflammation. The complete chloroplast genome of Oenothera drummondii has been sequenced, contributing to the understanding of its evolutionary history within the genus. Safety concerns are minimal based on current data; no major issues or drug interactions have been recorded for this plant.
