Japanese gentian

Gentiana scabra is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant. It has been used in various practices, particularly within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), for its purported health benefits. Scientific studies have shown that Gentiana scabra exhibits potential therapeutic effects, including modulation of immune responses and reduction of blood pressure. For instance, GPS treatment derived from this plant was found to alleviate psoriasis-like skin lesions by modulating immune homeostasis and suppressing NF-κB activation in mice. Additionally, it has been observed to lower blood pressure in rats with chronic stress-induced hypertension through the modulation of multiple signaling pathways. Gentiana scabra extract also showed varying efficacy against Eimeria tenella-induced coccidiosis in broilers, with a 2 g/kg dose achieving optimal results by improving gut health and modulating the microbiota-metabolome. To date, no major safety issues or drug interactions have been recorded for this plant, but further research is needed to fully understand its potential applications and mechanisms of action.
