Clerodendrum petasites

Clerodendrum petasites is a traditional plant used primarily in Asian medicine, particularly in China and Japan. It has been traditionally employed for various health conditions but specific uses are not well-documented. Scientific studies have shown that topical formulations of Clerodendrum petasites extracts can deliver phenolic compounds such as vanillic acid, nepetin, and hispidulin to the skin, indicating potential dermal benefits. These extracts also demonstrated significant antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects without apparent central nervous system (CNS) side effects at tested doses. In vitro studies with cell lines showed that CpEA and hesperetin from Clerodendrum petasites have potent anti-inflammatory properties by reducing cytokine release and inhibiting inflammatory gene expressions, suggesting potential therapeutic applications. Additionally, the combination of Clerodendrum petasites with other plants has shown promise in anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities, though further research is necessary to validate these findings. No major safety concerns or recorded drug interactions have been identified for Clerodendrum petasites.
