Cryptolepis dubia

Cryptolepis dubia is a plant traditionally used in some African herbal medicine practices, though specific uses are not well-documented. Scientific studies have identified several steroidal compounds from Cryptolepis dubia, with (-)-cryptanoside A showing potent cytotoxic and NKA inhibitory activities. Two leuconoxine-type diazaspiroindole alkaloids were also isolated, demonstrating selective cytotoxicity towards ovarian cancer cells. Four new pentacyclic triterpene glycosides from Cryptolepis buchananii fruits inhibited NO production in LPS-activated RAW264.7 cells. While (-)-cryptanoside A exhibited potent cytotoxicity against various human cancer cell lines, the evidence is limited and further research is needed to confirm these findings. No major safety issues or drug interactions have been recorded for Cryptolepis dubia, but caution should be exercised given its potential cytotoxic effects.
