Beach vitex

Vitex rotundifolia is a plant native to regions of Africa and Asia. While its traditional medicinal uses are not well-documented, preliminary scientific research has shown promise in various areas. The essential oil from its cone inhibited melanin synthesis and transport-related responses in B16BL6 melanoma cells without affecting cell viability, indicating potential skin health applications. Additionally, the processed fruit of Vitex rotundifolia demonstrated comparable antioxidant activity to raw fruit extracts and contained similar metabolites, suggesting it may have antioxidant properties. Advanced analytical techniques identified 29 differential compounds between raw and processed fruits, highlighting its chemical diversity. Casticin from this plant was found to reduce glutamate release in rat hippocampal synaptosomes by decreasing synaptic vesicle exocytosis, which could potentially impact neurochemical processes. No major safety issues or drug interactions have been recorded for Vitex rotundifolia thus far.
