Cubeb

Piper cubeba, also known as cubeb or javel pepper, is a traditional medicine plant native to Southeast Asia. Traditionally, it has not been extensively used in any specific medical practices. Scientific evidence suggests that extracts from Piper cubeba exhibit significant inhibitory activity against E. coli O157:H7 and have shown promise in inducing apoptosis in breast cancer cells through reactive oxygen species-mediated mitochondrial dysfunction. Additionally, a study found that a cubebinol-CuO nanocomposite derived from the seeds of this plant could be useful for both tetracycline sensing and degradation. In an animal model, irradiated P. cubeba reduced inflammation and oxidative stress markers in rats with CFA-induced arthritis by increasing IL-10 and FOXP3 expression. To date, no major safety concerns or reported drug interactions have been recorded regarding Piper cubeba.
